Strategic Text Processing Across Mediums: A Verbal Protocol Study
نویسندگان
چکیده
Using a sample of 116 Norwegian undergraduate readers in this experimental study, we investigated whether reading informational text on tablet versus paper would lead to differences with respect strategic processing and comprehension. Strategic was measured by means verbal protocol analysis, comprehension postreading written products. Results were inconsistent the shallowing hypothesis proposing that there are advantages for printed texts because digital typically processed more shallow, superficial way. That is, found no across mediums or These results may suggest boundaries related tasks, individual differences, contexts. Such potential discussed light current findings, suggestions future research clarify those offered.

A Text Steganography Method Using Pangram and Image Mediums
Steganography is the art and science of writing hidden messages in such a way that no one apart from the sender and the receiver would realize that a secret communicating is taking place. Unlike cryptography which only scrambles secret data keeping them overt, steganography covers secret data into medium files such as image files and transmits them in total secrecy avoiding drawing eavesdropper...
متن کاملAssessing Reading Comprehension of Expository Text across Different Response Formats
This study investigated if different response formats (test methods) measure reading comprehension of expository text differently. The study was conducted with 48 semester 6 TESL students at a university in Selangor, Malaysia. These students received an expository passage having descriptive rhetorical structure followed by three response formats, namely, incomplete outline, graphic organizer, a...
متن کاملA developmental ERP study of verbal and non-verbal semantic processing.
To clarify how different the processing of verbal information is from the processing of meaningful non-verbal information, the present study characterized the developmental changes in neural responses to words and environmental sounds from pre-adolescence (7-9 years) through adolescence (12-14 years) to adulthood (18-25 years). Children and adults' behavioral and electrophysiological responses ...
متن کاملStrategic manipulations for associative memory and the role of verbal processing abilities in schizophrenia.
Individuals with schizophrenia demonstrate episodic memory (EM) deficits and abnormal EM-related brain activity. Experimental encoding manipulations significantly benefit memory performance in schizophrenia, suggesting that a strategic processing deficit may contribute to memory impairment. However, few studies have investigated the combined effects of encoding and retrieval strategies on EM in...
متن کاملDifferential processing of immediately repeated verbal and non-verbal stimuli: an evoked-potential study.
Stimuli are better retained in memory if they are repeated after a delay than if they are immediately repeated. This effect is called the spacing effect (SE). Recent electroencephalographic (EEG) studies showed that delayed repetition of meaningful designs in a continuous recognition task induces an evoked response very similar to new presentations. In contrast, immediately repeated designs ind...
